Gomez Tears Up at “Hand in Hand” Telethon Telling the Texas Family's Tragic
Story : In the pre-filming segment
for Hand in Hand telethon on Tuesday evening (Sept. 12), Selena Gomez tells the
story of the Saldivar family - whose van is submerged by Harvey Storm floods -
becomes emotional when it comes to tragic events
"August 27: Seven members of the
Saldivar family are trying to escape the ever-increasing flood," Gomez
began. "Their van went into the bayou, only Sammy Saldivar survived.I am
from the Grand Prairie, about 250 miles from Sadlivars' house.
"Their story affects everyone who
hears it," the pop star continued, sounding silent. And no matter who we
are, the difference we face suddenly does not matter. Since that day, we have
joined together - neighboring neighbors who help, without stopping thinking
about race, religion or whatever.
"Ricardo Saldviar has talked about
his brother's escape and what happened to his beloved family, saying, 'I know
they go to heaven holding hands.' And if we pass through all the storms that
hit us, that's how we do it - together, shoulder to shoulder to shoulder.
